"Green technology and Low-carbon life" were the themes of the 9th Chinese "Bayer Young Environmental Envoy" Program. 20 university students from the cities of Beijing, Shanghai, Hangzhou and Chengdu were selected as Bayer Young Environmental Envoys and participated in a five-day eco camp. The eco camp included lectures held by experts in the field of ecology, on-site visits, discussions and group exercises to teach the envoys the importance of environmental protection.

The camp started on July 11th at the Headquarters of Bayer China in Shanghai. The envoys attended an in-depth presentation on “One century of Sustainable Development by Bayer” held by Tang Jun from Corporate Communications. Another lecture on the importance of high-tech materials for sustainable development was given byJulien Guiu, responsible for Industrial Marketing at the Bayer MaterialScience Business Unit Coatings, Adhesives, and Specialties.
The envoys visited various sites such as a sewage treatment plant, a refuse landfill, the production plant of Bayer CropScience and the Zhejiang Museum of Natural History. The visits provided the students with first-hand information on the development of environmental protection in the city of Hangzhou and the neighboring region.
"I hope the students cherish the honor that the title of being a 'Bayer Young Environmental Envoy’ confers”, said Li Shu Dong from the Shanghai Environmental Protection Education Center, during the awarding ceremony of the eco camp. “The project is a start for further environmental protection practices. It raises people’s concerns in the field of environmental protection and encourages them to get involved.”
The eco camp concluded on July 15th on the shores of the West Lake. The West Lake is very famous for its natural beauty and rich variety of plants. Colloquially it the lake is called “The Heaven on Earth”. After the five day experience the envoys returned to their universities. Next to having made new friends, they also learnt a lot about the latest environmental protection concepts and had an insight on how industry, authorities and private households interact in the field of environmental protection.
